MTS Update (New mix coming soon!)
So here we are about one month since the last mixtape, and there’s been a ton of really great stuff being released out into the world. There’s also been a few things that have been around for a while that I’m just now becoming aware and familiar with, and I’m going to share some of that with you here. First off, a few new favorite things that have been taking up my time.
TheSoundYouNeed, based out of the UK, and best represented by its YouTube channel (which I’ve linked to above), is one of THEE sexiest, most well curated playlist/curated collections of music I’ve come across since, well, yours truly. Seriously, joking aside, whoever is running TSYN is [Doing It Right | Killing It | Knocking it out of The Park | All of the Above]. The visual work is outstanding, and the music is just top-notch picks from here all the way down to the beginning. At the risk of losing return business, you owe it to yourself to subscribe and subscribe HARD. (http://thesoundyouneed.net/)

So turns out, “French Kiwi Juice” is, in fact, what FKJ stands for (you might remember, I wasn’t quite sure a mixtape or so ago.) He (They?) just released some new stuff that is mere days old. The 2nd EP from FKJ released in just baarreely over a year since the first EP is showing some real evolutionary growth.

Here’s one of those cases of something that’s been happening out in the world for, what’s now been about 10 years (!) that I’ve only recently discovered. I like to think of myself as one of the Lucky 10,000 for whom the curtain has been pulled back, exposing my new favorite Hip Hop/R&B/Soul acts since, I can’t even tell you when. The funny this is, I managed to come within a few inches of their greatness back in 2011 when I included a cover of George Michael’s “Everything She Wants” performed by Zo! and Phonte. Apparently Zo! has been involved for some time with FE, but I think my favorite part of their story is that Phonte and Nicolay first met on the okayplayer.com message boards, and just started sending vocal and production work back and forth to each other. I mean, if that isn’t a “Internet, fuck yeah!” story then I don’t know what is. The last few nights, I’ve been listening to their third album “Authenticity” on repeat. Next week, I should hopefully have some new stuff to download for ya. Stick around.
3M – Copa Mundial
I was holding off on publishing this until after the US v Germany game. I wanted to make sure we advanced on to the knockout round, otherwise, I would have changed the name of the mixtape. I’m not even certain that I have the translation right, but if you can move past it and on to the album art, then we’re probably ok. As you can guess, there’s some relevant content on this mixtape. Iran’s official song for the World Cup makes an appearance, as well as that really great track from the Beats commercial. If you haven’t heard/seen it, it’s here. The song kicks in around the 1:15 mark, but it’s worth watching it all the way through. There’s also a lot of housey material making it’s way on. Toss it into your DJ mixes, or workout playlists, or whathaveya. It’s worth it. TRUST ME :D
- Jungle – Jamie N Commons & X Ambassadors
- Sing (Trippy Turtle Remix) – Ed Sheeran
- 1nce Again (Bit Funk Remix) – A Tribe Called Quest
- Let Me Down Gently (Playless club mix) – La Roux
- Expectations – Brika
- Fade – Mexico City Blondes
- The Villain – Mesita
- Changing Me (feat. Sean Michael Murray) – Bobby Green
- Gole Iran – Ajam
- My Friend Has A Swimming Pool – MAUSI
- Little Bit of Feel Good (Jamie Lidell Cover) – SomethingALaMode (Ft. Adam Joseph)

BTW: Share this site with your friends, OR ELSE… I’m going to start putting the downloads behind a Facebook “like.” You know it was coming…
3M – Money Spider
I’ve been holding on to some of these tracks for a while now, waiting for just the right mix of new hotness to unleash this beast. Today is that day. The weather is warming up. The time is now, friends. I have to warn you: some of this stuff is straight up bootleg. That being said, I’m going to be posting some links in the track descriptions to the artists, so that you can get your pre-order on for some of these albums when they drop. Do me a solid and kick some of your hard-earned sheckles their way, because they deserve it, and you fucking know it.
- Attica ’71 – Olivver | Right out of the gate, I’m going to lay this heavy on ya. I am telling you right now, give this two listens. By mid-way through the second, if you’re not convinced this is probably one of the hottest tracks out in the last 5 months, then you, my friend, aren’t paying attention. It’s going take up residency in one of those holes all that Ecstasy use has put in your brain, and it’s going to stay there for as long as it likes. Get used to it.
- Mrs. Vandebilt Told Me – Big Boi | You’ll be happy I included this track the next time you’re hosting a pool party. Some fine lady/gentleman with impeccable taste is going to step up real close, and say, “this is some damn good music.” And you’ll be like, “Yeah, I know.”
- Figure it Out – Ekkah | Give it about 15 seconds into this one, and I promise you’ll wish you were near a beach, drink in hand, sun goin’ down.
- In the Grass – Vacationer | This tracks feels very much like something that could’ve been on the Friendly Fire’s “Pala” album, and for that, I am very happy. It’s like the sequel to Hawaiian Air.
- Low – Lewis | This track is just the right (equal) amounts of forlorn and happy. It’s bipolar a little bit, but in a sultry way. You know what? Just shut up and listen.
- The Moss – Cosmo Sheldrake | From the moment I first heard this track, I loved it. Something about it feels like it could’ve been a children’s song about nonsense kinds of things, but his instrumentation and production take it to this other level. Here’s your first link: (http://paradyserecords.bigcartel.com/product/cosmo-sheldrake-the-moss-pre-order)
- Harry’s Code – Knox Brown | Instant Classic, only 3 days old. ‘Nuff said.
- Waters – Eliza Shaddad | Here’s your second link: (https://beatnikcreative.bandcamp.com/album/eliza-shaddad-waters-ep-2) There’s this intensity about this track that reminds me of a summertime monsoon storm. It’s truly fantastic stuff.
- Closer – JMR | Don’t let the first 40 seconds of this track fool you. Maybe I’ve said too much, but I don’t want anyone to miss out on this track. Listen to it loud. Trust me on this.

Working on a new mixtape…
