So here we are about one month since the last mixtape, and there’s been a ton of really great stuff being released out into the world. There’s also been a few things that have been around for a while that I’m just now becoming aware and familiar with, and I’m going to share some of that with you here. First off, a few new favorite things that have been taking up my time.
TheSoundYouNeed, based out of the UK, and best represented by its YouTube channel (which I’ve linked to above), is one of THEE sexiest, most well curated playlist/curated collections of music I’ve come across since, well, yours truly. Seriously, joking aside, whoever is running TSYN is [Doing It Right | Killing It | Knocking it out of The Park | All of the Above]. The visual work is outstanding, and the music is just top-notch picks from here all the way down to the beginning. At the risk of losing return business, you owe it to yourself to subscribe and subscribe HARD. (http://thesoundyouneed.net/)

So turns out, “French Kiwi Juice” is, in fact, what FKJ stands for (you might remember, I wasn’t quite sure a mixtape or so ago.) He (They?) just released some new stuff that is mere days old. The 2nd EP from FKJ released in just baarreely over a year since the first EP is showing some real evolutionary growth.

Here’s one of those cases of something that’s been happening out in the world for, what’s now been about 10 years (!) that I’ve only recently discovered. I like to think of myself as one of the Lucky 10,000 for whom the curtain has been pulled back, exposing my new favorite Hip Hop/R&B/Soul acts since, I can’t even tell you when. The funny this is, I managed to come within a few inches of their greatness back in 2011 when I included a cover of George Michael’s “Everything She Wants” performed by Zo! and Phonte. Apparently Zo! has been involved for some time with FE, but I think my favorite part of their story is that Phonte and Nicolay first met on the okayplayer.com message boards, and just started sending vocal and production work back and forth to each other. I mean, if that isn’t a “Internet, fuck yeah!” story then I don’t know what is. The last few nights, I’ve been listening to their third album “Authenticity” on repeat.
